Czechs have a long history of making Christmas ornaments. Sadly, today it seems that the bulk of this work is done for export, and it’s difficult to find interesting new pieces for purchase here in Prague. However, here is one store that I’ve consistently had luck with. I also encourage you to look for ornaments in antique stores and bazaars, as that’s where I often pick up some of my most cherished finds.

Dana Bohemia

Národní 43, Prague 1, Staré Město
tel 224 214 655
hours Mon-Sat: 09:00–19:00; Sun: 11:00–18:00
metro Můstek or Národní třída

While this store also sells ceramics, porcelain and chandeliers, I tend to come here mainly for their Christmas ornaments, stopping in throughout the year to check out their inventory, which is always prominently displayed at the counter. I should mention that if you’re looking for handcrafted ornaments made from natural materials, this shop is not for you. What you will find here are wonderfully colorful and glittering ornaments in all shapes and sizes ranging from classic ball shapes to my personal favorite, the Christmas hedgehog! Prices start at 30 CZK per ornament.

NOTE: You will need to enter by walking through the passageway.
