A Bespoke Shoemaker in Prague

When shopping in Prague, I’m always on the lookout for luxury goods that showcase artistry and originality. Made-to-measure footwear certainly fits the bill. But you won’t be able to purchase a pair of Salon Lawart bespoke Oxfords or brogue derbies at shopping malls in Prague. Owner Erik Lawart is a cobbler who crafts men’s and, occasionally, women’s shoes from calfskin, shark, ostrich, and lizard leather using traditional hand-sewing methods. His exquisite creations, which have graced the feet of Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg, among other high-profile clients, aren’t a simple purchase—starting at 30,000 CZK and taking about 5 months to produce, they’re an investment. Yours will help keep a trade alive as well as land you a pair of shoes that will surely last a lifetime.
