Visitors to Prague won’t want for stylish places to dine in the increasingly trendy Old Town district. But tasty take-out options are harder to come by. Enter Fish & Chips 21 Dlouha St., a new venture by the owners of Zdenek’s Oyster Bar. Open til 1am it’s the perfect place to refuel after a night out or, with its cozy dining room, a delightful lunch or casual dinner spot. The beer-or-herb-battered fish—choose from cod, haddock, salmon, or sea bass—is accompanied by chips and mushy peas and served atop a cute newspaper nest (dine-in only; take-away orders are charged an extra 5 CZK for the classic cornet). For those not in the mood for fryer fare, I highly recommend the shrimp roll, a battery baguette stuffed with juicy shrimp. Vegetarian options include irresistible vegetable frites like a portobello mushroom filled with tangy goat cheese. While the decor, complete with requisite phone box, will please anglophiles, the menu offers some surprising Czech touches: the heavily battered and exotically seasoned carp “chips” are worth a try. Sadly, the bread pudding, which I have been told is to die for, had already sold out on the afternoon of my visit. The New York cheesecake was a scrumptious substitute.

Veggie Frites 85–125 CZK
Fish and chips 165–195 CZK for small; 225–285 for large
Rolls 125–165 CZK
Dessert 85 CZK
Budvar beer 50 CZK
Wine 400 CZK–3,890 CZK
